1. Introduction
ReadVego ("we," "us," or "our") turns books into a language-learning experience, and doing that well requires handling your information responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

This Policy applies to the ReadVego mobile apps and to the readvego.com website.
2. Information We Collect
Account data
- Email address and a password hash, if you sign up with email;
- An account identifier, and your name and email where you choose to share them, if you use Sign in with Apple or Google;
- Your display name and an optional profile photo you upload.
Profile and preferences
- Your native language, reading level, daily reading goal, and notification preference;
- If you signed up with a partner or referral code, the identifier of that partner (for commission tracking).
Subscriptions
- Your subscription status and events (purchase, renewal, cancellation, expiration). Payment is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we never receive or store your card number.
Technical data
- A push notification token, if you enable reading reminders;
- Standard server logs (IP address, timestamps, and error diagnostics) generated when the app talks to our backend, kept for security and debugging.
We do not collect your precise location, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. The app contains no ads.
3. How We Use Information
We use your information, and rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR, to:
- Provide the reading, translation, vocabulary, difficulty-analysis, and story-question features, and personalize translations to your native language — performance of our contract with you;
- Operate subscriptions and enforce free-plan limits — performance of contract;
- Send a welcome email when you sign up and the reading reminders you opt into — performance of contract and your consent for reminders, which you can withdraw at any time in the app or your device settings;
- Track referrals so partners are credited for subscriptions they refer — our legitimate interests;
- Secure the Service, prevent abuse, and debug problems — our legitimate interests;
- Comply with legal obligations, such as tax and accounting rules — legal obligation.
4. AI Processing
ReadVego's AI features are powered by Anthropic. Only the data needed for the feature you use is sent:
- When you tap a word for a translation, the word and the sentence it appears in;
- When you ask a question about a story, your question and an excerpt of the chapters you have reached;
- When you run a difficulty analysis, a short sample of the book's text and the book's metadata.
Your inputs are not used to train Anthropic's models. Common word translations and difficulty analyses are cached on our servers without any link to your account, so other readers get an instant result. We keep a per-day counter of how many AI translations and questions you have used, to enforce plan limits.
5. Books and Reading Data
- Your reading progress and per-session reading time and pages, used for statistics and streaks;
- Words you save to your vocabulary list, their translations, and your review and mastery state;
- Book ratings and reviews you submit, which are shown publicly with your display name and photo;
- Your chat history with the "Ask about the story" feature.
6. User-Uploaded Books
When you import a book from your device, the file's extracted text is stored so you can read it. Imported books are private to your account and are not shared with other users. When you use AI features on an imported book, the relevant excerpt is processed as described in Section 4.
9. Data Retention
We keep your account data and content for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the app. This immediately deletes your profile, reading activity, vocabulary, story chats, ratings, and imported books.
Anonymous cached translations and server logs may be retained for a limited period for operational and security purposes. We may keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel that separately in your store account settings.
10. Data Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production data is restricted, and database access is governed by row-level security so users can only reach their own records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
11. International Data Transfers
We are based in the European Union. Some of our service providers, including Anthropic, RevenueCat, Resend, and Expo in the United States and Ahrefs in Singapore, are located outside the European Economic Area, so your data may be processed there.
Where this happens, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or, where the provider is certified, the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, to ensure your data receives an adequate level of protection. You can contact us for more information about these safeguards.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Delete your data — you can do this at any time in the app;
- Receive your data in a portable format;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@readvego.com from the address linked to your account. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority; in Romania, this is the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP).
13. Children's Privacy
ReadVego is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in your country if that is higher, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. See our Terms of Use for eligibility requirements.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@readvego.com and we will delete it.
14. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following service providers to operate ReadVego:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and backend hosting;
- Anthropic — processes AI feature inputs to generate your results;
- RevenueCat — manages and reports subscription status;
- Apple and Google — sign-in, subscription payments, and push notification delivery;
- Expo — delivers push notifications to your device;
- Resend — sends account emails, such as the welcome email;
- Ahrefs — cookieless, aggregate analytics for the readvego.com website only (not the app).
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices, the Service, or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will notify you in the app or by email.
